Value Proposition

By providing direct links to national, regional, and local disability perspectives, the It’s Our Story archive strives to be the most comprehensive video and multimedia collection of empirical knowledge in the field of disability studies.  Its core interest is in the voices of leaders and advocates, young and old, who are living (or who have lived) in America with a disability.

It’s Our Story presents the history, the lessons and the progress of the disability movement, as well as those of the organizations, families, and communities that movement has impacted.

“This project points towards the future by examining our past through the eyes of the present.”

Through the expanding community of the Internet and the incredible opportunities it provides, our voices, images, and documents will be made fully accessible to all audiences who seek intimate disability insights from a primary source.

An Expansive Network

Everyone has at least three important people in his or her life: perhaps a spouse at home, a friend out of the house, and a co-worker. In short, sixty percent of the United States (about 170 million people) is influenced by disability.

Apply this reality to the one billion people with disabilities across the globe and influence expands to over four billion people worldwide.  We at It’s Our Story stand at the center of a powerful and expanding network of people who are ready to work, ready to converse, and ready to share their stories.

A Digital Database

On July 26, 2010, in celebration of the 20th Anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, It’s Our Story premiered its first 30 interviews (in the form of nearly 500 clips) on a YouTube channel titled ItsOurStoryProject. At present, clips featured on this channel average 8,000 views a month.  Our audience is ready, is waiting, and is hungry for a continued exploration of people with disabilities and the lives they enjoy.
